Beware: Fraudsters are using tax payments to defraud!
Are you getting a call from the “Federal Tax Service” promising a large tax deduction? Don’t believe it! This is a new scam.
📉 How the scammers operate:
- They call and pretend to be FTS employees.
- They convince you to apply for a deduction. To do this, they ask you to open a NEW bank card.
- They send a link to a fake website (a copy of the agency’s website), where you need to fill out an application.
- Under any pretext (verification, activation, insurance), they ask you to top up this new account.
Result: you’re transferring your money to scammers.
✅ Your safety rules:
🔹 Never click links in voice calls or messages from strangers. Verify information only on the official FTS website.
🔹 Download apps and utilities only from official stores (RuStore, App Store, Google Play).
🔹 Don’t open attachments and files from suspicious senders.
🔹 Enable two-factor authentication wherever possible (Gosuslugi, email, social media, banks).
🚨 If you fall for the scam:
- Go to the bank immediately:
- Block your card and online banking.
- Provide the operator with the transfer details. Ask them to cancel the transaction (the funds may not have been sent yet).
- If Gosuslugi was hacked:
- Immediately contact the nearest MFC to reset your password and restore access.
- File a police report:
- File a report at the police station or call the duty officer (phone 02/112).
- What to attach: a bank statement showing the movement of funds and screenshots of correspondence with the scammers.
⚖️ Legal liability:
Remember, fraud using electronic payment systems is a criminal offense (Article 159.3 of the Russian Criminal Code). Hacking and theft of computer data also carries a prison sentence (Article 159.6 of the Russian Criminal Code).
