Avangard took part in organizing the first chess tournament between Omsk and Dalian schoolchildren
On January 17, the first Russian-Chinese online chess tournament was held in Omsk.
The event “Friendship Chess: Omsk-Dalian” was held at comprehensive school 53. It was attended by 2 teams of young amateur athletes (15 participants from Russia and China).
Negotiations on holding the tournament began in October last year during the participation of Deputy General Director of the Avangard Special Economic Zone Mikhail Derevyanko in the II Russian-Chinese Investment Conference in Shenyang. Then, at a reception with the mayor of Dalian, agreements were reached on expanding cooperation between the cities in various fields.
“Not only the implementation of joint investment projects, but also the holding of events in the field of culture and sports have a huge impact on the relations between the regions, so the executive authorities of the city of Dalian enthusiastically accepted our initiative to hold the first ever online chess tournament between our cities,” explained Mikhail Derevyanko.
According to the author of the online competition project, the general director of the ANO “Agency of Public Diplomacy” Nikolai Savenko, “The tournament will serve as another step in building fruitful and promising relations between Russia and China not only in the economy, but will also strengthen cooperation between the two countries in culture and sports.”
The tournament was made possible thanks to negotiations between the deputy mayors of Omsk and Dalian with the support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and China.
The first three places in the tournament were distributed among the participants of the Chinese team. The winners were Xu Bofang, born in 2016, Xiao Chenyu, born in 2012. and Gu Qiongliang, born in 2014. However, the organizers note that despite the results of the tournament table, friendship won.
“We believe that it does not matter who won this tournament. The main thing is friendship between children,” said Li Huihui, Director of the Dalian Chess Association
“Russian children are very sweet, with a strong character, they were very serious and focused during the competition. We can become friends and talk not only about chess, but also about other little things. Through such events, we help strengthen friendship between children from the two cities and sow the seeds of friendship from an early age, which is of great importance. As General Secretary Xi Jinping said, the strength of interstate relations lies in friendship between peoples,” said Wang Tao, Director of the Department of Commerce of the People’s Government of Dalian.
