GAZPROM-NEFT registered an enterprise for the production of electrodes for the Russian metallurgy in Omsk
Gazprom-Neft has registered an enterprise in the Omsk Region that will ensure the implementation of the company’s new project to create a modern plant for graphite electrodes – Gazpromneft-Graphitek. The future plant will be located in the special economic zone “Avangard” and will be able to annually produce for the metallurgical industry over 45 thousand tons of high-tech products – heavy-duty electrodes.
Graphite electrodes are the key element for the production of high-grade electric steel. The construction of a modern enterprise is of strategic importance for the independence of the Russian metallurgy from foreign supplies: at present, most of these products are supplied to Russia from abroad.
The new Gazpromneft-Grafitech plant will be integrated into a single production cluster of the company in the region, uniting high-tech enterprises: the Omsk Refinery, the Omsk Lubricants Plant, as well as a promising project to create the first production of oil refining catalysts in Russia.
Anatoly Cherner, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, Gazprom-Neft:
“The high-tech plant for graphite electrodes Gazprom-Neft will provide the domestic industry with products that are strategically important for metallurgy. The new enterprise of the company is our contribution to the decarbonization of the Russian metallurgical industry: the use of modern electrodes will halve the carbon footprint in steel production. “
